We completed our Kedarnath Yatra in September 2023. This documented itinerary is a reliable guide based on our experience, providing a detailed, day-wise plan covering travel, trekking routes, and temple visits. You can customize it according to your preferences and schedule for a smooth and memorable journey.

Day 1: Arrival in Delhi—Travel to Rishikesh/Haridwar
Our journey to Kedarnath begins with reaching Delhi by morning or noon. From here, you have multiple options to travel to Rishikesh or Haridwar—by train, bus, or private cab. The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours. Here, you can also directly reach Rishikesh or Haridwar.
Upon arrival in Haridwar or Rishikesh by the evening, check into a pre-booked hotel and rest. If time allows, you can visit Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar or Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh to witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti. The spiritual ambiance, chants, and floating diyas in the river create an unforgettable experience.
After dinner, retire early to your hotel to prepare for the upcoming journey.

Day 2: Rest & Exploration in Haridwar/Rishikesh
This is a leisure day, allowing you to acclimatize and soak in the spiritual vibes of these holy cities. Begin your day with a holy dip in the Ganges at Har Ki Pauri (Haridwar) or Triveni Ghat (Rishikesh), known for its purifying effect. Post breakfast, visit renowned temples such as Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi, Neelkanth Mahadev, or Parmarth Niketan Ashram. If in Rishikesh, take a peaceful stroll across Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula, two iconic suspension bridges over the Ganges. You may also explore local markets and cafes.
In the evening, witness Ganga Aarti again if you missed it the previous day. The rest of the night is for relaxation before your long journey ahead.
Day 3: Travel to Sonprayag
Early in the morning, board a bus or shared taxi from Rishikesh/Haridwar to Sonprayag, the last major stop before Kedarnath. The journey takes around 8-10 hours, covering scenic mountainous terrain and picturesque valleys. On arrival in Sonprayag, check into a hotel and rest. As this place gets crowded during peak seasons, an alternative is to stay in Rampur, just a few kilometers before Sonprayag.
Spend the evening relaxing, exploring the local market for last-minute essentials, and preparing for the Kedarnath temple the next day.

Day 4: Trek to Kedarnath (16 km)
The day begins early with a short shared taxi ride from Sonprayag to Gaurikund (costing around ₹50 per person). Gaurikund is the starting point of the trek and has small shops and dhabas where you can have breakfast before starting your ascent.
The 16-kilometer trek to Kedarnath takes about 6–8 hours, depending on your pace. The trail passes through rugged mountain paths, offering breathtaking views of the Mandakini River, green valleys, and snow-capped peaks. There are resting points, small tea stalls, and mule services available for those who prefer assistance. By evening, you will reach Kedarnath Temple, one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. After checking into pre-booked GMVN guesthouses or tented accommodations, freshen up and attend the evening Aarti at the temple. The experience of sitting in front of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrine, surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks, is deeply spiritual and surreal.
After dinner, rest in your tent or lodge, preparing for the morning darshan.

Day 5: Kedarnath Darshan & Trek Back to Gaurikund
Start your day with the early morning pooja at the Kedarnath Temple. The morning hours are serene, offering a peaceful experience with fewer crowds. You can also visit Bhairavnath Temple, located on a nearby hill, known as the protector deity of Kedarnath.
After spending a few hours exploring the surroundings, capturing breathtaking photos, and soaking in the spiritual atmosphere, begin the descent to Gaurikund around noon. Since the trek down is easier, it takes around 4-6 hours to reach Gaurikund. On reaching Gaurikund, take a shared taxi back to Sonprayag for a night’s stay. Have a warm meal and rest, as the trek can be physically demanding.

Day 6: Travel Back to Rishikesh/Haridwar
After breakfast, begin your return journey from Sonprayag to Rishikesh or Haridwar via bus, shared taxi, or private cab. The drive, though long, offers spectacular views of mountains, river valleys, and local villages along the way. Upon arrival in Rishikesh/Haridwar, check into a hotel and relax. If time permits, explore the local markets, visit ashrams, or enjoy a leisurely evening walk along the Ganges.
Day 7: Return Journey
The final day of your pilgrimage can be planned based on your departure preference. If you’re flying, take a flight from Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport, which is about 1.5 hours from Rishikesh. Alternatively, you can board a train or bus from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Delhi and then continue your journey home.
After a spiritually fulfilling journey to Kedarnath, you will return home with divine blessings, beautiful memories, and a rejuvenated soul.
